Pinterest – An Unlikely Source for Inspiration

Pinterest Marketing

Lately, whenever I’ve had to look for inspiration for design projects I’ve been going to one place.  Instead of going to Google Images, I’ve found Pinterest to be an even better aggregator for design inspiration.  I know a lot of people still think of Pinterest as a social media site for bride-to-be’s, stay-at-home moms and DIY-ers but since its launch in 2010, it has really evolved in both its membership and content.

If you’re a marketer, I highly recommend Pinterest for inspiration for your next marketing project. Here a a few areas that you can go to Pinterest for:

Branding: Type in branding and you will see an abundance of logo designs, stationary suites, business card ideas, packaging, car decals etc. for brands that you recognize and lots that you won’t.

Email Templates: search “Email marketing”, “Email design” or “Email templates” and you will get examples of both B2B and B2C email designs from every industry.

Infographics: Pinterest has the best selection of infographics that can easily be sorted by topic. Whether you’re looking for infographic ideas, layout designs or just looking for an infographic to convey a certain point (be sure to attribute source properly), start digging and you’ll likely find what you’re looking for.

Web & App Design: whether you’re looking for just simple web inspiration, or more specific like flat design, responsive design, mobile or app design – the good thing about Pinterest is that it can be more than a source of inspiration, it can be about education too.  There are tons of links to white papers and educational resources if you want to learn more about the latest web and app design trends.

Print & Outdoor: whereas I find Google will return tons of irrelevant images, Pinterest is where you will find the latest, on trend designs.

I often will visit the company pages for big brands to see what they are doing and what pins they are pinning.  It is also where you’ll find the imagery for their latest marketing and social media marketing campaigns.  I’m interested to know – What do you use Pinterest for? Are there boards that you’ve found helpful? Do you have any marketing board suggestions for me to follow?
