Going through my emails the other day and I see this:

It was funny and amusing to see the chance encounter of these 3 emails arriving in my inbox, one after another. I wonder if the email marketers at Ann Taylor, Urban Outfitters and WHBM even know that they had sent out such similar subject lines, so close to one another! It made me laugh (maybe only email markets will find this funny?) but it also made me realize that sometimes, it doesn’t matter how much planning you do ahead of time – things like this can still happen.
Brands draw inspiration from one another all the time – at the end of the day, it’s about creating content that is unique to your brand and maintaining a strong brand voice and presence so that when your customers are given the opportunity to pick between you or a competitor, they pick you.
(By the way, I did end up opening all three emails – no playing favourites there!)
